Tbilisi - Gori - Uplistsikhe - Tbilisi
Not far from the city of Gori, famous for being the birthplace of Joseph Dzhugashvili (Stalin), is the ancient cave city of Uplistsikhe. The city was founded at the turn of the II-I millennium BC and included more than 700 cave structures. The city retained a certain relevance until the XIX century when it was finally abandoned. The uniqueness of this city lies in the fact that many caves and places of worship are still preserved today. The structure, organized irrigation and sewage systems, roads, and secret tunnels will amaze you. Entering the city, you will be transported to the distant past, which these rock formations keep.
In Gori, you can visit the house museum of Joseph Stalin, one of the most powerful dictators of the XX century. The personality of Stalin still causes a lot of controversies and is still judged very ambiguously. On the one hand, during his rule, hundreds of thousands of people were killed. On the other hand - he managed in the shortest possible time to build one of the most powerful countries of the XX century - the USSR, which occupied ⅙ part of the land of planet Earth. Nonetheless, it’ll be interesting to see the house where he was born and raised; The carriage in which he traveled to Tehran, Yalta, and Potsdam, and take a glimpse of his personal belongings, including the famous pipe. After the museum, you can also visit the stone-built fortress of Gori, which is no less old than Uplistsikhe.
